  • We record every model's price at every store we track once a day, since July 2, 2026. Each model is checked at the store selling it cheapest today, the one its buy button goes to.
  • Lowest before today is its lowest in-stock price on any recorded day before today's price began, with the last day it was charged.
  • Usual price is the middle of its in-stock prices over the 30 days before today's price began, so a one-day spike can never make a cut look bigger.
  • A real deal is at or below the lowest price and at least 5% and $20 under the usual price, the same bar as our deals page. A model with fewer than 14 days of history is not judged (43 in stock today).

Only if the price beats what the model already sold for. Comparing the same model at the same store, 16% of the listings we track cost less in November so far than in July, typically 8% less, and 64% had not changed. A Black Friday price above a model's lowest tracked price is not its best price, whatever the banner says.
Why did some air conditioner prices go up before Black Friday?
We cannot see why a store changes a price, only that it did: in the last 30 days 22 of the models we track went up at least 5% and $20 over what they usually sold for in the month before, for example the Friedrich 6,000 BTU Chill Premier Window Air Conditioner at Sylvane, usually $249 and $349 since October 27. A later sale back to the usual price would be no saving.
How do you work out the usual price and the lowest price?
We record every model's price at every store we track once a day. The lowest price is the lowest in-stock price on any day before today's price began. The usual price is the middle of the in-stock prices over the 30 days before today's price began (from at least 7 days), so a one-day spike cannot inflate it. A real deal is at or below the lowest price and at least 5% and $20 under the usual price. A model needs 14 days of history before we judge it.
