Running cost

The portable units we list are not ENERGY STAR certified, and portables are rated on a different (SACC) basis that is not comparable to the nameplate-BTU estimate the window figure uses, so there is no honest dollar figure to show here. As a category, portables (single-hose models especially) usually run less efficiently than a comparable window unit.

What to watch

At 56 dB(A) it is louder than 26 of the 32 other portables we list that publish a noise figure.

Installation & the rules that apply

This is a portable monobloc. The most regulation-light option by far. No EPA Section 608 certified technician is needed because the refrigerant circuit is factory-sealed and never opened, no building or mechanical permit is triggered since nothing is fixed to the structure, and a landlord has little ground to refuse a unit that leaves no permanent alteration. The real constraints are your lease or HOA rules on how the window kit looks from outside, and noise to neighbours.
