What each maker says about the line

LG Dual Inverter

LG builds its Dual Inverter room units around a variable-speed compressor that changes speed to hold the temperature instead of cycling on and off. The 23,500 BTU LW2422IVSM needs a 208/230 V circuit, and the LP1419IVSM in the line is a portable that LG rates at 10,000 BTU by the DOE (SACC) method and 14,000 BTU by the older ASHRAE method.

GE Profile ClearView

GE Profile ClearView units sit below the windowsill on adjustable supports, with an expandable chase-way through the opening, so the window can still be opened and closed with the unit installed. GE says only the larger 10,300 and 12,200 BTU sizes use inverter technology.

How we compare two lines

  • Only new units we can find in stock with a live price, at the same size. A line's average says more about its size mix than about the line.
  • A price difference counts when it is at least 5% and at least $20, and only between models that install the same way (a do-it-yourself kit is never priced against an installer-fitted system).
  • Efficiency is compared on one scale (CEER) and counts at a gap of 0.5 or more; noise counts at 3 dB(A) or more, using only ratings checked against the retailer's specification for the exact model.
  • Warranty terms are as each listing states them. Models named in a CPSC recall are never compared or sold here.

LG Dual Inverter vs GE Profile ClearView: common questions

Is LG Dual Inverter or GE Profile ClearView cheaper?
It depends on the size. Comparing each line's cheapest new, in-stock model at the same size, GE Profile ClearView's cheapest model costs less at 8,000 BTU ($358 against $419) and the two are within 5% or $20 at 2 sizes. These are live retailer prices and change often.
Which is more energy efficient, LG Dual Inverter or GE Profile ClearView window air conditioners?
Comparing the best CEER rating each line publishes for its in-stock models at the same size, their best ratings are within 0.5 at 2 sizes. A higher CEER means less electricity for the same cooling. Not every listing publishes a rating, so a size with a rating on one side only is not compared.
What sizes do LG Dual Inverter and GE Profile ClearView window air conditioners come in?
In stock right now, LG Dual Inverter sells 8,000, 10,000, 12,000, 14,000 and 18,000 BTU and GE Profile ClearView sells 8,000, 10,000 and 12,000 BTU. So only LG Dual Inverter sells 14,000 and 18,000 BTU. Size the unit to the room first: an oversized unit short-cycles and leaves the air cool but damp.
Do LG Dual Inverter and GE Profile ClearView make inverter window air conditioners?
LG Dual Inverter has 5 inverter models in stock, and GE Profile ClearView has 2, going by each listing and the maker's model numbers. An inverter compressor slows down instead of switching on and off, which is usually quieter and more efficient at part load.
Have any LG Dual Inverter or GE Profile ClearView window air conditioners been recalled?
None of the 7 LG Dual Inverter and 4 GE Profile ClearView window air conditioners we track is named in a CPSC recall notice we check. That covers the models listed here, not every model either line has sold, and it is not a safety certification.
